Early ripening, strong yields, and bold flavors define this year’s wines.

The 2024 California winegrape harvest started early after a rainy winter, a cool spring, and a warm summer. While some regions saw reduced yields due to late-season weather, vintners statewide report excellent quality. Innovative farming practices helped navigate a fast-paced growing season.
NAPA VALLEY
A textbook vintage with bold, aromatic, and structured wines. Early rains led to strong vine growth, while a warm summer and a Labor Day heat wave accelerated ripening. Harvest finished by mid-October, two to three weeks earlier than 2023. Yields were slightly above average but 15–20% lower than last year. Cabernet Sauvignon stands out with elegant tannins, rich fruit, and balanced acidity.
SONOMA COUNTY
An outstanding vintage with deep color, layered aromatics, and excellent balance. Steady conditions and healthy rainfall supported a strong crop, with harvest finishing two to four weeks ahead of 2023. Yields were above average, and both whites and reds exhibit exceptional vibrancy and structure.
LODI
A fast-paced harvest with slightly smaller yields but exceptional quality. High July temperatures affected berry size, but strong vine canopies preserved fruit integrity. Warm late-summer weather accelerated ripening, and harvest wrapped up weeks earlier than usual. White wines are fresh with bright acidity, while reds show deep color and intense aromatics.
MONTEREY COUNTY
One of the best vintages in years, with steady growing conditions and a long ripening period. Mild summer temperatures and a late heat wave allowed for excellent balance in acidity and sugar levels. Yields were average to slightly above, and all varieties performed exceptionally well.
