Tim Wong Director of Winemaking
Born in Kwantung Province in China, Tim immigrated to the United States at an early age and eventually attended the University of California, Davis, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry.
Tim Wong joined Delicato in 1996 as red Winemaker after having spent 23 years working for both Guild Wineries and Constellation Brands in various roles including Chemist, Process Control Enologist, Winemaker and Winery/Facility Manager. Tim was responsible for the blending and finishing of approximately four million cases annually of table, dessert, sparkling, and brandy wines.
In his current role as Director of Winemaking, he oversees winemaking from as much as 150,000 tons of grapes annually for both Delicato and custom crush accounts. Tim’s duties also include administration, budgeting, providing support to marketing/sales efforts, product development, customer service, and quality control. He supervises a staff of twenty that includes winemakers, a laboratory/quality control manager and technical staff, and production planners.
Tim is a professional member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture; sits on the committee for The American Vineyard Foundation that reviews all requests for enology research grants; and was a member of the ethyl carbamate review technical committee of the Wine Institute. He is also a wine judge at the New World International Wine Tasting Competition.
